It is a very narrow distinction, but in terms of this campaign I see your point. Really it hinges on wether Stuart only intended to prevent an invasion of Sicily, if so then all tactical and strategic aims were met. If however he wished to invade Italy then its benefits were squandered thereafter in a strategic defeat.
