I have just read the logistics chapter of `Swords`.
I regret (not really) to have to tell you, that (and I am sure that this was not the author`s intention) the whole thing reads as a damning litany of N`s total inability to organize a logistics service anywhere near capable of supplying his armies.
The statement on page 567, that the Grande Armee got to Moscow `without much suffering from hunger` left me gasping on the ropes.
This may have been true for the Imperial Household and the Imperial Guard, but, form all the various accounts that I have read over the years, the rest suffered MAJOR food and water deprivation from about three days after crossing the River Niemen.
The fact that all corps were down to half-strength by the time of the battle of Smolensk speaks volumes.
