I don't like to get into arguments with accountants, but it seems to me that the money from those countries that would previously have been spent at home was now being shipped off to France to pay the expenses of the new aristocracy. None of them lived in the countries they drew their money from and I do not know how far anyone of them took an interest in the management of their new estates. That doesn't sound very healthy for the economy of those countries.
