Maransin corrects Lapene in his later writings by saying that Girard was in 'attack columns' and Gazan was in 'attack columns by battalion'.
I believe this could be edited to say:
Maransin adds to Lapene's account by saying that Girard was in 'attack columns' and Gazan was in 'a series of battalion columns'.
In this sense, both are possible and thus Maransin is expanding upon what Lapene wrote and not "correcting" the 'attack column' aspect, but to say the several attack columns are a series of columns.
If you have the original French of Maransin (which I seem not to have, though I thought I did), I could verify this. - R
