As to your point on "training, experience, attitude and morale of the crews", I agree with this gnereal point at sea in the same manner I agree with the advantage on land of "veteran" troops (trained men well-löed with solid experience in the field as well as battle experience, not the older garrison type) over "fresh" troops (newly trained men without experience in the field let alone battle, whether conscript or "better").

OT - I would apply this to forces in the air or even sports or business enterprises (sans battle of course), as all this enhances John Boyd's OODA (observe-orient-decide-act) loop, which I favor (as well as being "high context").

As to "all about", I must say, all the training and experience in the world can go to waste when ships (or planes or computers) or their equipment have flaws. This was less of an issue during this period as others (consider the Great War or World War). - R
