Napoleon I did try hard to ensure legitimacy through inheritance for his son the King of Rome did he not?
Or an Emperor Napoleon III (Charles Louis Napoleon) who apparently chose his title to show his legitimacy through inheritance from his uncle and his cousin. He certainly felt he had a right, divine or otherwise, to the Bonaparte throne staging coup d'etats in 1836, 1840 & successfully in 1851.
Funny thing though is he might have been illegitimate as his father, the ci-devant King of Holland and Emperor Napoleon I's brother, denied paternity.
