Well, Naps did admit it was a rather large blunder. The execution was never part of his game plan, as most of us know, and had some of his over-zealous subordinates not gotten over their skis, then I imagine we would have had the show trial where justice would seem to have been done.
I think Naps took the blame, as he had to, for his subordinates' actions. I think to be fair, though, the totality of the circumstances should be considered.
