I never understood the danger posed by Palm. True that he was a bookseller, and true that he either published himself or distributed anti-French leaflets or pamphlets or whatever they were. But regardless he was scarcely a threat, not someone who could mount a large-scale revolt, or even cause a ripple in the tide of French influence. But was what he did treason? Obliquely so, I think, since he was Bavarian and Bavaria was a French client state. Was his brand of treason worth a firing squad? Not at all.
