Taking it in context the postings don't show that Davout actually swore an oath to the king, only that he expressed, in writing, his intention of doing so. He was prevented from doing so by the order to retire to the country and, quite understandably, took offence at criticisms of his conduct at Hamburg which coloured his later actions. The only point I was making is that it is incorrect to state that he did not take the oath because of his objections to the Bourbons.
