Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest you had actually used the word useless, just I thought that was the basic thrust of the argument.
I'm not familiar with the precise individuals you mean, except I know of course that Louis was accompanied by many soldiers and statesmen loyal to the ancien regime and hangers on, when he returned in 1814 and 1815.
During the first Restoration when people were realising Louis was weak and frankly eager to restore things to factory state, there was an element, especially in the army that if they couldn't have Napoleon, then the Duc de Orleans would be better. And he of course had actually served as a soldier and seen active service in the 1790s.
As to other French Royalists, I believe not a few of the officers in command of irregular forces in the Vendee were of the nobility.
