I don't think so - you certainly read Béraud who well describes the psychological warfare of Boney, intimidating opponents by exaggeration of his own force, threats and so on. Boney used all this by calculation - also his reaction to any resistance or even critics - was utmost violent beyond any reason (Palm) - just to create a picture of a ruthless powerful person who you better obey.
