Re: Military/International Law in the Nap. Period
While looking at the background of international law in the Napoleonic period and the proper conduct of armies toward civilian populations, either hostile or friendly, I came across references to several senior French commanders, such as Saxe, issuing orders that parallel those of Wellington in Spain.
All this seems to have changed in 1789, which is not surprising.
And it was not very bright.
